
Patiala, March 23 The Punjab BJP on Monday burned an effigy of former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, who has been accused of aiding in the suicide of a state official, and demanded a CBI investigation against him.
Similar demonstrations were held by the party in other districts.
Speaking to the media, state party chief Sunil Jakhar alleged that Laljit Bhullar was arrested only after Union Home Minister Amit Shah indicated that the case could be handed over to the CBI, and the BJP's pressure.
He also claimed that a CBI investigation would reveal the secrets of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the financial trail from Bhullar.
Jakhar alleged that the AAP government tried its best to prevent a CBI investigation into the case of suspended DIG H S Bhullar, as he had demanded a fast-track probe into the state official's suicide.
On March 21, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar, allegedly ended his life by consuming poison.
In a video he recorded before his death, he purportedly claimed harassment by Bhullar, who resigned as minister later in the day at the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The same evening, the police booked Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and personal assistant Dilbag Singh under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Laljit Singh Bhullar was arrested on Monday from Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib district.
