
Chandigarh, April 11 Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann finalized a series of events on Saturday to commemorate the 650th Parkash Purab of Guru Ravidass, with year-long celebrations planned across the state.
The decision was made during a meeting with the Sant Samaj at Punjab Bhawan here on Saturday.
Mann said the state government would organize seminars, kirtan gatherings, pilgrimages, plantation drives, and other programs to mark the occasion, and to promote Guru Ravidass's message of equality and dignity on a global stage.
He said that "Guru Ravidass Gardens" would be developed on 650 acres of panchayati land, and plantation drives would be carried out across districts.
The chief minister said the main event will be held in Khuralgarh and will include exhibitions on the life of Guru Ravidass, katha and kirtan darbars, a Sant sammelan, a conference on his bani, and a drone show.
He said the government is seeking guidance and suggestions from the Sant Samaj for organizing the celebrations in a fitting manner.
Mann said Guru Ravidass envisioned an egalitarian society free from discrimination, and the state government is committed to promoting his teachings.
