Today, the Defence Ministry signed a 1,950 crore rupee contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in New Delhi to procure two mountain radars for the Indian Air Force. The Ministry stated that this deal, signed under the "Buy (Indian-Designed, Developed, and Manufactured)" category, aligns with the government's "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" and "Make in India" initiatives. The radars have been designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment under the Defence Research and Development Organisation, and will be manufactured by BEL. According to the Ministry, these systems will enhance air defence capabilities, strengthen national security, and reduce reliance on foreign equipment.
