Adventure tourism is experiencing steady growth around the revered Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, with an increasing number of pilgrims choosing white-water rafting during their visit to the region.
With a consistent flow of devotees to Katra throughout the year, local entrepreneurs have introduced rafting activities along suitable river stretches in the Reasi district. This initiative offers visitors the opportunity to combine spirituality with adventure, while also creating employment opportunities for local youth.
Adventure operators report a noticeable increase in bookings, particularly on weekends and holidays. Many pilgrims, after completing their pilgrimage to the shrine, are extending their stay to explore nearby attractions and participate in rafting sessions. Operators have ensured strict safety measures, including trained guides, life jackets, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
Local entrepreneurs have expressed optimism ahead of the upcoming tourist season, expecting higher footfall as weather conditions improve. They believe that the combination of religious tourism and adventure activities can significantly boost the local economy.
Officials have also highlighted Reasi's potential as an emerging adventure tourism hub, citing its natural landscapes, river systems, and established pilgrimage circuit as key strengths. Stakeholders remain hopeful that with continued promotion and infrastructure support, rafting and similar activities will further enhance the tourism experience in the Vaishno Devi region.
