
In February of this year, Indian Railways transported over 137 million tonnes of freight, representing a significant increase of 3.96% compared to the same period last year. The Ministry of Railways stated that this steady growth in freight reflects the sustained demand for rail-based logistics across various sectors. Highlighting the crucial role of Indian Railways in supporting the country's economic activity by ensuring the transportation of essential commodities, the Ministry noted that freight revenue for the month reached over fourteen thousand five hundred crore. The Ministry further added that railways are continuously strengthening their freight logistics through capacity augmentation, improved terminal infrastructure, dedicated freight corridors, and digital freight management systems. They also emphasized that with continued investments in infrastructure and freight operations, Indian Railways remains committed to enhancing its role as the backbone of the country's logistics network and supporting India's economic growth.
