
The Lok Sabha is continuing discussions on the grants requested by the Ministry of Railways for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Satabdi Roy of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) participated in the discussion and stated that 341 trains do not have pantry facilities. She emphasized the need for hygienic food arrangements on trains. Ms. Roy also pointed out that the Railways is charging cancellation fees even when waitlisted tickets are cancelled.
Arun Bharti of the Lok Janshakti Party (R) stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways has transformed its transportation system and is now setting global standards. He stated that in the 2026-27 Union budget, ₹2.93 lakh crore has been allocated for Railways, which will boost infrastructure development.
He also claimed that serious train accidents have reduced by 90 per cent. Mr. Bharti highlighted that during the UPA tenure, 4.2 kilometers of railway tracks were laid per day, which has now increased to 8.5 kilometers per day.
