Beed, Apr 3 Heavy, unseasonal rains caused damage to several structures in the Beed district on Friday afternoon, an official said.
The roofs of 40-50 houses, made of corrugated iron, were blown away by strong winds that accompanied the rain in villages such as Walipur, Ghatjawla, and Jalwa Tanda, Beed tehsildar Chandrakant Shelke said.
"The walls of some houses and cattle sheds were also severely damaged. We have reports of trees being uprooted, and standing crops were also destroyed in some areas," he added.
Farmers in the region said they are facing significant losses, adding that such intense April rain has not been seen in the past several decades.
"Assessment of crop loss and damage to houses and other structures will begin on Saturday morning," Shelke informed.
