Rain Shelter Collapse: Two Killed in Uttar Pradesh.webp

Saharanpur (UP), March 16 Two people were killed after a tin shed, under which they had taken shelter to escape heavy rain, collapsed, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night, and the deceased have been identified as Jaipal Saini (55), a former village head, and Ramkesh Saini (56), a farmer from Nawada village.

Station House Officer of Nakur police station, Dharmendra Sonkar, said that the two were returning to their village on a motorcycle after attending a panchayat in Uttarakhand when they were caught in heavy rain and a storm. They took shelter under a tin roof, which soon collapsed, leaving them seriously injured.

Sonkar said that about an hour later, when a police patrol team passed through the area, they stopped after noticing a motorcycle parked by the roadside.

The policemen then found the two trapped in the debris and rushed them to a hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.
