Rain, Snow Disrupt Traffic in Kupwara Hills.webp

Heavy rain in plains and fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Kupwara have disrupted traffic on mountain routes, prompting authorities to launch snow clearance operations.

Mar 11, Srinagar: Heavy rainfall continued across the plains of Kupwara district since yesterday, while the higher reaches witnessed fresh snowfall, affecting normal movement in several mountainous areas.

According to officials, locations including Sadna Top, Pharkiyan Top and Z-Gali received around five to six inches of snowfall, leaving the region covered under a white blanket.

Due to slippery road conditions and adverse weather, traffic movement on these routes has been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure. Snow clearance operations have been launched to restore connectivity at the earliest.

Speaking to DD News, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Suse said the weather situation in the district remains unstable.

He advised residents and travellers to check the latest weather advisories before heading towards higher altitude areas and urged them to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by the administration.
