In Punjab, the state government has formed teams of 500 officials from the agriculture department to assess the damage to standing crops in the fields caused by the prolonged inclement weather. These teams have been specifically instructed to work closely with the Revenue Department to ensure the smooth implementation of the "Special Girdawari" (crop loss assessment) process, in order to provide early relief to affected farmers.
According to preliminary reports, wheat crops across more than 1.35 lakh acres have been affected by the recent rains and hailstorms, primarily in 7 districts, including Amritsar, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, Bathinda, Mansa, Ferozepur, and Moga.
Field officials have also been instructed to maintain constant contact with the farming community and provide technical guidance where necessary to salvage the remaining crop.
