Jaipur, March 11 Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accused the Modi government of intolerance and authoritarian tendencies on Wednesday, claiming that social media platforms have been asked to remove satirical and critical posts about the Prime Minister.
Gehlot said the irony is that even right-wing supporters were not spared by the alleged censorship.
Referring to a media report alleging that social media platforms have been asked to remove satirical and critical posts about the Prime Minister, he said that the intolerance and authoritarian tendency of the Modi government has now reached its peak.
"Media reports say that the central government has given strict instructions to X and Instagram to remove satirical and critical posts about the Prime Minister,” Gehlot said.
He said, “In a strong democracy, criticism and satire should be welcomed, but being so afraid of truth and questions shows that this government has lost its faith in democratic values."
The former Chief Minister claimed that even right-wing supporters were not spared by the alleged censorship.
"The biggest irony in this entire matter is that even right-wing supporters, who often blindly defend the government, have not been spared by this axe of censorship,” he said.
"Their accounts were also blocked merely for raising questions over the new UGC rules. Police even went to the homes of several right-wing influencers and threatened them," he added.
Gehlot alleged that the developments show the government has little regard for ideology or even its own supporters.
"This clearly shows that the Modi government has no attachment to any ideology or even its supporters. It only wants blind flattery that does not ask questions. Even BJP supporters should think about what is happening in the country. This undeclared emergency in the country is extremely worrying," he said.
