Jaipur, March 31 The Centre has approved a proposal by the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd to expand affordable electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across urban areas and highways in the state, with financial assistance of ₹81.12 crore, officials said.

Under the plan, a total of 591 EV charging stations will be set up at 262 locations across Rajasthan's four smart cities and along key highways, strengthening the state's EV ecosystem.

According to an official statement, the proposal was submitted under the Prime Minister's e-Drive scheme to promote green energy and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the state.

Approval of the project is seen as a significant step towards boosting sustainable mobility.

As part of the scheme, 112 charging stations will be installed in Jaipur, 49 in Ajmer, 39 in Udaipur, and 28 in Kota, while 34 stations will be set up along national and state highways. All charging stations will be established on land belonging to government departments.

Officials said the move will facilitate long-distance travel for EV users and improve access to charging facilities.

The initiative is also expected to promote the use of non-polluting electric vehicles, reduce carbon emissions, and expand the green energy network across the state, the statement added.
