Rajasthan Local Body Elections Delayed: Dotasra's Criticism.webp

Jaipur, April 2 The chief of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC), Govind Singh Dotasra, accused the BJP government in the state on Thursday of undermining democracy by delaying elections to local self-governing bodies and urban local bodies.

Addressing a public meeting in Beawar, Dotasra alleged that the government was intentionally postponing the polls despite constitutional provisions mandating timely elections.

The meeting was held under the party's state-wide "Sangathan Badhao Loktantra Bachao" campaign, aimed at strengthening the organization and raising issues related to democracy.

Dotasra accused the Centre of not adhering to constitutional principles, as he believes that a strong organizational structure has historically played a crucial role in nation-building.

Referring to B. R. Ambedkar, he said the Constitution guarantees equality and voting rights, and alleged that these were being weakened.

"Local body elections should be held every five years, but this government has been delaying the elections," he said.

Dotasra claimed that the BJP was apprehensive of electoral defeat and was therefore postponing the polls.

He urged party workers to reach out to farmers, the poor, and small traders, and to support those facing injustice.

He also called upon workers to remain united and work under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, asserting that the party would continue its efforts to safeguard democracy and constitutional values.

Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully and other local leaders were also present at the event.
