
Jaipur, March 13 A 35-year-old man attempted suicide by self-immolation by pouring petrol on himself near the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Friday, according to an official.
Police personnel present at the scene extinguished the flames and rushed him to the trauma center of PBM Hospital, where he is currently being treated, he added.
The man, identified as Ram Lal, a resident of Khajuwala area, was sitting on a bench near the SP office. After some time, he walked along the corridor and doused himself in petrol that he had in a bottle, setting himself on fire.
Bikaner SP Kawendra Singh Sagar said that Ram Lal had previously filed a complaint alleging harassment by another person. He later submitted a written statement stating that he did not want any action to be taken.
He said that the reasons for his return to the SP office on Friday and the circumstances leading to this incident are being investigated.
The SP was meeting complainants in his office at the time of the incident.
