Jaipur, March 28 Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday accused the BJP-led state government of neglecting sports infrastructure, alleging delays in the construction of a proposed international cricket stadium near Jaipur.

In a statement, Gehlot said that the project, conceived during the previous Congress government led by him, aimed to build the world's third-largest and India's second-largest cricket stadium.

The foundation stone for the stadium was laid on February 5, 2022, with plans for phased development. The stadium was envisioned to have an initial seating capacity of 45,000, which could be expanded to 75,000.

Gehlot said that the first phase was scheduled to be completed within 24 months, or by February 2024, but it remains incomplete even after 36 months.

Alleging a lack of intent, the Congress leader said there were no signs of the project being completed in the near future and accused the government of putting development works on the "back burner".

Gehlot also warned that any further delays would lead to increased costs, ultimately burdening the public. He further urged the government to set aside political differences and expedite the project.
