Jaipur, April 5 The Centre has approved the construction of an elevated corridor in Rajasthan's Udaipur district for ₹363.89 crore to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety on the busy NH-48 stretch.
Sharing details on social media, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the project will be developed in the Kherwara town on the Udaipur-Ratanpur-Shamlaji section, a key route connecting Rajasthan with Gujarat.
"Approval has been granted for the construction of an elevated corridor in Kherwara town on NH-48 in Rajasthan at a cost of ₹363.89 crore. The project fulfils a long-standing demand of residents for an elevated structure," he said.
According to the minister, the project aims to separate local and through traffic, which will help reduce congestion in Kherwara, a major commercial hub on the highway. This stretch usually witnesses heavy movement of vehicles, including those travelling between Udaipur and Ahmedabad, often leading to frequent traffic jams.
Gadkari noted that the elevated structure will allow through traffic to bypass the town, thereby reducing travel time and easing pressure on existing roads.
The project will also address identified accident-prone "black spots" along the stretch, leading to an overall improvement in road safety.
The approval comes in response to a decades-old demand from residents for an elevated road to manage rising traffic and enhance safety on the busy highway section.
