Lucknow, March 11 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will begin his two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency, Lucknow, on Thursday to attend official meetings and party interactions, local leaders said on Wednesday.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, however, has postponed his scheduled visit to his constituency, Raebareli, during the same period.

BJP metropolitan president Anand Dwivedi said the defence minister will arrive at Lucknow airport on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, Singh, the MP from Lucknow, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate a green corridor at Samatamulak Chauraha and review the stretch up to Daliganj bridge, Dwivedi said. Singh will also address a public gathering at Jhulelal Vatika before returning to Delhi in the evening, he added.

In Raebareli, Congress district president Pankaj Tiwari said Rahul Gandhi's visit to his constituency has been deferred.

Gandhi was slated to attend a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the collectorate on March 12 to review development schemes. Tiwari said the visit was postponed because the DISHA meeting was cancelled.

Party leaders said Gandhi will instead visit Amethi on the evening of March 13. He is expected to visit the residence of former district Congress president, the late Yogendra Mishra, at Gauriganj to attend his 'tehrvi' (13th-day ritual), they said.

Mishra, who was 60, died at Gauriganj district hospital on March 1 after a prolonged illness. A former district president and state general secretary of the Congress, he was considered close to the Nehru-Gandhi family.
