New Delhi, March 3 The Business Advisory Committee of the Rajya Sabha allocated eight hours on Monday for a discussion on the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, even as at least four opposition parties objected to the introduction of the bill in the House, according to sources.
The bill was listed as part of the agenda of the Rajya Sabha but was not taken up in the House on Monday.
According to a source, the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and the CPI(M) opposed the introduction of the CAPF bill in the Rajya Sabha, while cautioning the government against passing legislation in haste.
The proposed "umbrella" law is being brought in to regulate the recruitment, deputation, and promotion of CAPF officers, according to the Business List issued by the House.
The source said that the opposition leaders stressed that bills like the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, and the bill to amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act should be sent to a select committee for further scrutiny.
The BAC also allocated four hours for discussion on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill.
