Ramgarh, April 6 A member of an armed gang was arrested following a brief encounter with police in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district on Monday, during which he sustained a bullet injury to his leg, officials said.
The accused has been identified as Sunny Singh (28), a resident of Religarha under the Giddi police station area.
The encounter took place around 5.30 am near the Domuhana Temple within the Bhurkunda police station limits, they said.
"The accused was arrested after a brief encounter with police. We were conducting a raid in the area following a tip-off that a member of the Rahul Dubey gang was planning to carry out subversive activities. When he came face to face with police, he opened fire on them, leading to an exchange of fire in which he sustained a gunshot wound to one of his legs," Ramgarh SP Ajay Kumar said.
He was admitted to a local hospital for treatment, the SP said.
Police have recovered two country-made pistols, a mobile phone, and a bag from his possession, they said.
In a separate incident, seven members of an armed gang involved in a firing incident at a construction company site in Patratu on March 29 were arrested on Sunday during a vehicle checking drive, an official said.
"Two pistols, four cartridges, a car, a laptop, and eight mobile phones were recovered from their possession," said Patratu SDPO Gaurav Goswami said.
The gang mainly extorted money from coal traders, industrialists, and construction companies, he said.
