Ramgarh (Jharkhand), March 2 A 12-year-old orphan schoolgirl in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand was adopted by an Italian couple on Monday, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner Faiz Aq Ahmed Mumtaz told reporters that the adoption was completed at the district collectorate after all official formalities.

"The girl, Jyoti Kumari, who is studying at a school for orphans run by the Divine Onkar Mission, has been adopted by a new set of parents – an Italian couple, Claudia Pedrini and her wife Dominga Salvini –," the deputy commissioner said.

He informed that the couple had applied for the adoption of an orphan child, and after obtaining their approval online, they approached the district administration in Ramgarh.

Rajesh Negi of the Divine Onkar Mission said that the district administration handed Jyoti over to the Divine Onkar Mission when the girl was just five years old.

"She was enrolled in the first grade of the free residential school for orphans and children with disabilities," Negi said.
