Mumbai, April 1 The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Wednesday that it processed 99.9 per cent of applications within the prescribed timeline in March 2026, according to official data.

The central bank said that it handled a total of 24,911 applications in March, including pending cases and fresh applications, after accounting for those referred back to applicants for additional information.

As many as 3,195 applications were pending at the beginning of March, while 22,243 fresh applications were received during the month. A total of 527 cases were referred back to applicants for additional details, bringing the net number of applications for processing to 24,911.

Of these, 21,459 applications were processed during March. A total of 21,428 cases, or 99.9 per cent, were disposed of within the stipulated timeline, while only 31 cases, or 0.1 per cent, were cleared beyond the deadline, according to RBI data.

At the end of the month, 3,452 applications remained pending, of which 3,435 cases, or 99.5 per cent, were still within the prescribed timeline, and 17 cases, or 0.5 per cent, were beyond it. Of the delayed cases, 14 were awaiting input from external agencies, and three were under process, the RBI said.

Data broken down by function showed that "Banker to Banks and Governments" and "Currency Management" accounted for the bulk of applications. Under "Banker to Banks and Governments," 11,057 applications were processed, all within the timeline. In "Currency Management," 7,682 applications were cleared within time, with one beyond it, while 1,323 cases remained pending within the timeline, the data showed.

In "Foreign Exchange Management," 1,306 applications were processed within the timeline, with 10 beyond it, while 1,049 cases remained pending within the deadline and 13 beyond it. Under "Regulation and Supervision," 465 cases were processed within time, with eight beyond it, while 795 remained pending within the timeline.
