RCB's Collective Effort: A Positive Start to IPL 2026

Bangalore, March 29 – Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Rajat Patidar praised the team’s collective effort in their opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, stating that everyone’s contribution was a positive sign for the rest of the season.

At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB chased down SRH’s 201 with 26 balls to spare, starting their campaign with a dominant victory. “The way the boys played and everyone contributed was a positive sign. First of all, this was our first match of the season, and the way everyone contributed and played well for the team, I think that was a very positive sign for us.”

Patidar also highlighted the impressive performance of bowler, Duffy, who took 3 wickets. “Duffy’s performance was really impressive. His ability to take wickets from Head and Abhishek was crucial to our victory.”

Asked about RCB’s aggressive batting approach, fueled by fifties from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, Patidar said, “We were assessing the pitch. The pitch was conducive to batting. The way Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal played their innings, I think it laid a solid foundation for the other batsmen.”

Patidar also praised Phil Salt’s stunning catch to dismiss Ishan Kishan. “Salt’s catch was terrific. I was surprised by his athleticism.”

Duffy, who took 3 wickets with figures of 3-22, was named Player of the Match on his IPL debut. “It was an amazing start for me. I’ve heard great things about Bangalore and RCB, and this was a fantastic way to begin the season. I thought it was a well-rounded team performance. I just tried to keep things simple.”

Duffy also discussed his bowling plans, emphasizing the importance of adapting to the pitch. “We spoke a lot about lengths and what works on this surface. Josh had a great season here last year, so it was about building on his success and trying to replicate it.”

Patidar acknowledged Kohli’s crucial role in the chase. “Especially, you have to give credit to Virat bhai. His performance was outstanding, especially when the team is chasing. It’s very important to get his wicket as soon as possible.”

Kishan reflected on SRH’s batting effort, acknowledging that early wickets hurt them. “I think the wicket played well after the first 3-4 overs. We lost a few early wickets, and we have to take care of that next time.”

He also praised Kohli for keeping SRH’s bowlers at bay. “Especially you have to give some credit to the batters, the way they batted, especially Virat bhai while chasing. It’s very important to get his wicket as soon as possible. Otherwise, if he keeps on going, it’s hard to stop him.”

Kishan also said the team will try to improve their bowling plans. “We’ll have to work a little harder. It’s the first game and these mistakes are acceptable for now. We’ll be a little more cautious with the bowling, areas where we need to execute, and we might be stronger from the next game.”
