Recognizing Public Service: Delhi MLA Award Initiative Launched.webp

New Delhi, March 12 The Delhi Assembly has formed a high-level selection committee to award its annual "Best MLA" award, the Assembly secretariat said in a statement on Thursday.

The committee will be chaired by Speaker Vijender Gupta, the statement said.

"This initiative aims to recognize Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who demonstrate outstanding commitment to public service and the parliamentary process," Gupta said.

Members of the committee to select the best MLA of the Assembly will include Rajendra Aggarwal (former Member of Parliament), PDT Acharya (former Secretary General, Lok Sabha), Reetesh Singh (Principal Secretary of Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs), a senior journalist and Assembly Secretary Ranjeet Singh.

The MLAs will be judged on their attendance records, the quality of their contributions to House debates, the relevance of public issues raised, and their overall adherence to parliamentary decorum, the statement said. This comprehensive framework ensures that the award recognizes those who effectively bridge the gap between citizen concerns and policy-making.

"The Best Legislator Award is not merely a trophy; it is a testament to the sanctity of this House. By honoring exemplary performance, we are motivating our members to uphold the highest standards of parliamentary conduct and engage in meaningful deliberations," the Speaker said.

By institutionalizing excellence, the Assembly aims to increase accountability and transparency, the statement added.
