Hyderabad, March 16 A man convicted in the death of Telugu actress Pratyusha in 2002, surrendered before a city court on Monday.
His surrender follows a Supreme Court ruling on February 17, dismissing the plea of G Siddhartha Reddy, who was challenging his conviction in the actress's death. The court ordered him to surrender within four weeks.
After Siddhartha Reddy surrendered before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court here, he was taken to the Chanchalguda central prison.
The Supreme Court had also dismissed the plea filed by P Sarojini Devi, Pratyusha's mother, who alleged foul play in the actress's death, ruling out that there was strangulation and rape in the case.
Pratyusha died in Hyderabad on February 24, 2002.
In 2011, the Andhra Pradesh High Court reduced Siddhartha Reddy's jail sentence from five years to two years.
The trial court had in 2004 sentenced Reddy to five years' imprisonment and fined him Rs 5,000 for abetting suicide.
The case dates back to February 2002, when Reddy and Pratyusha were in a relationship for six years.
They attempted suicide after their family opposed their marriage.
On February 23, 2002, both consumed pesticide, but later decided to seek emergency medical treatment.
Despite medical care, Pratyusha succumbed to the poison, while Reddy survived.
