Regional Outlook: Key States Projected to Drive Rapeseed-Mustard Harvest.webp

Jaipur, March 30 India's rapeseed-mustard production is estimated to rise to 119.4 lakh tonnes in the 2025-26 rabi season, up from 115.2 lakh tonnes in the previous year, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) said on Monday.

The initial estimate is based on a study that used field surveys, crop cutting, and remote sensing across major mustard-growing districts.

According to the estimate, the total area under rapeseed-mustard has increased to 93.91 lakh hectares from 92.15 lakh hectares in 2024-25.

The average yield is also estimated to improve to 1,271 kg per hectare, compared to 1,250 kg per hectare last year, supported by favorable weather conditions and better agronomic practices, SEA President Sanjeev Asthana said.

He said that the country's mustard production has shown steady growth over the years, rising from about 86 lakh tonnes in 2019-20 to nearly 120 lakh tonnes in 2025-26.

"A higher mustard crop will help improve domestic edible oil availability and reduce import dependence," he said.

At the state level, Rajasthan is expected to remain the top producer with an estimated output of 53.9 lakh tonnes, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 18.1 lakh tonnes.

Madhya Pradesh's production is estimated slightly lower at 13.9 lakh tonnes, while Haryana is likely to record 12.7 lakh tonnes.

The association said the estimates are provisional and may be revised based on further field surveys and updated data. A final survey will be conducted during April-May to validate the production estimates, he said.
