Three-day regional workshop on AIDS and STIs begins in Guwahati
Guwahati, February 25: A three-day regional workshop, titled "Suraksha Sankalp Karyashala" on AIDS and STI awareness, began today in Guwahati under the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NACP).
The workshop aims to raise awareness among state and district-level stakeholders about issues related to HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections. Special emphasis has been placed on the implementation of the National AIDS Control Programme in all northeastern states.
The programme was attended by the Mission Director of the National Health Mission, Dr. Lakshmanan S., along with Chief Secretaries of participating states, Mission Directors of the National Health Mission, Project Directors of State AIDS Control Societies, and several other senior officials and experts.
The workshop focuses on strengthening coordination, awareness, and effective implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention and control strategies in the region.
In Assam, six priority districts—Cachar, Dibrugarh, Kamrup Metropolitan, Nagaon, Nalbari, and Sivasagar—have been identified to strengthen inter-departmental coordination, ensure district-level ownership, and promote mission-driven implementation under the "Suraksha Sankalp Karyashala," supporting India's goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat.
