
Minister of Power Manohar Lal met with Bhutan's Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, during his 4-day visit to Bhutan. During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation in clean energy and sustainable development.
In another meeting, the Minister also met with Bhutan's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Lyonpo Gem Tshering. They discussed strengthening ongoing cooperation in the hydropower sector and exploring future opportunities in renewable energy and regional power trade. The Ministry of Power stated that by expanding cooperation in the power sector, India and Bhutan have established a strengthened bilateral institutional framework. The Ministry added that this framework will enable regular review and coordination of ongoing and future initiatives between the two countries to further strengthen collaboration. Key areas of cooperation include non-hydro energy, cross-border transmission, project financing, capacity building, and institutional partnerships. On this occasion, the two sides signed the Tariff Protocol for the Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project and the Methodology for Reactive Energy Accounting of the Reactive Power Exchange. This visit marks another important step in deepening India-Bhutan bilateral ties.
