
Bengaluru, March 15 – Rising female long jumper Mubassina Mohammed won the gold medal in the long jump at the Fifth Indian Open Jumps Competition held at the Anju Bobby George Foundation Campus in Bengaluru on Sunday.
In her winning performance with a jump of 6.38m, the 20-year-old representing the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation also improved her personal best of 6.36m.
Mubassina performed consistently on Sunday. She had jumps of 6.18m, 6.24m, 6.29m, 5.81m, 6.15m, and 6.38m.
Bhavani Yadav (Railway) won the silver medal with a distance of 6.27m. Kusuma Ravada (Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation) won the bronze medal with a distance of 6.08m.
Earlier on the first day of the competition, Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chithravel competed for the gold medal in the men's triple jump event on Saturday.
However, Aboobacker had the upper hand in the exciting contest. The international jumper representing the Air Force found his rhythm in his third attempt to win the gold medal with a distance of 16.83m. His opening jump was 16.05m, and he recorded a jump of 16.57m in his second attempt. However, he did not attempt the last three jumps.
Praveen Chithravel settled for the silver medal with a jump of 16.78m in the season-opening competition.
