Road Construction Controversy: Social Media Claims Debunked.webp

Indore, March 17 The Madhya Pradesh road authority on Tuesday dismissed social media claims that "plastic rods" are being used to build the Indore-Ujjain six-lane road, clarifying that the material is actually rust-proof glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP).

According to officials from the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC), GFRP, commonly called 'fiberglass,' is a lightweight, strong, and corrosion-resistant material made of fine glass fibers and polymer resin.

The MPRDC issued a clarification after social media reels raised questions about the quality of materials used in the project, claiming that "plastic rods" were being used in the construction.

MPRDC manager Ganesh Bhabhar, in a statement, said, "Over the past two days, questions have been raised on various social media platforms about the quality of materials used in the construction of this road. Reels circulating on social media claim that plastic rods are being used to build the road, but this is far from the truth."

He added that steel rods are heavy and prone to rusting, while GFRP is rust-proof and light.

"Even though GFRP weighs less, its tensile strength is much greater than steel," the official pointed out.
