New Delhi, March 17 Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday advocated for increased use of municipal waste in road construction to conserve natural resources.
Using legacy waste will help reduce dependence on natural resources, the Minister for Road, Transport and Highways said while addressing the 14th Annual Convocation Ceremony of the Asian Education Group (AEG).
There are four major landfills in Delhi, including the Ghazipur landfill. The government has taken the initiative to segregate 80 lakh tonnes of waste and use it for road construction, Gadkari said.
Municipal waste has been used in various sections of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, among others, the minister said.
"We have decided to use municipal waste in road construction so that we do not have to use natural resources to obtain aggregates," he said.
