April 10, New Delhi: Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev traveled to the United States to hold economic talks with members of US President Donald Trump's administration.
Dmitriev is seeking the easing of sanctions and an expansion of business ties between the two countries, although he has made limited progress so far.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin stated that the visit by President Vladimir Putin's special investment envoy does not indicate a resumption of negotiations on a possible peace deal in Ukraine.
The visit comes ahead of a US decision on whether to extend sanctions relief on Russian oil, which is set to expire on April 11.
The United States had issued a 30-day waiver allowing countries to buy sanctioned Russian oil and petroleum products currently stranded at sea, a move the US Treasury Secretary described as an effort to stabilize global energy markets affected by the Iran war.
