New Delhi, April 10 Sachin Yadav, who was a finalist at the World Championships, will be among a number of top Indian track and field athletes competing in the Delhi leg of the one-day Indian Open Series at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday.

Given the number of entries, competition is expected to be highly competitive in almost all events. The athletes will also be motivated by the recently laid Mondo track at the JLN Stadium.

In the men's javelin, the focus will be on Sachin, who finished fourth with a distance of 86.27m at his debut World Championships in Tokyo last year.

The 2025 Asian Championships silver medallist, Sachin, performed impressively last season. He is eager to start his 2026 season on a positive note at his home ground. He will face tough competition from Shivam Lohakare, Kishore Kumar Jena (Asian Games silver medallist), and Rohit Yadav.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time Asian Games champion in shot put, is also looking to further improve his performance on Saturday.

The men's 100m event will also feature a strong field. Animesh Kujur, the national record holder in 100m/200m, will be keen to showcase his sprinting abilities ahead of the National Senior Athletics Federation Competition in Ranchi on May 22-25.

Gurindervir Singh, a former 100m national record holder and winner of the 60m indoor title last month in Bhubaneswar, will be a main competitor for Kujur. Other top sprinters in the fray include Tamil Arasu S, Pranav Pramod Gurav, and Harsh Santosh Raut.

In the men's 400m, all eyes will be on Vishal TK, the national record holder. The Tamil Nadu sprinter clocked a time of 45.12 seconds in August 2025 in Chennai.

Muhammed Ajmal, a key member of the national 4x400m relay squad, is making a comeback after an injury last season and will be a key competitor to watch.

The 16-leg Indian Open Series began on April 4 in Bengaluru, followed by the second leg in Jaipur (April 5).

Due to the overwhelming response to the Delhi leg, which is the third of the Indian Open Series, the competition is packed from early morning until late evening.

Competitors are categorized into different groups, and all races are finals. In addition to senior athletes, competitions will also be organized for both men and women in the junior group.
