Chandigarh, March 17 Around 37,000 elderly citizens were registered at state-level health check-up camps held under the "Sade Buzurg, Sada Maan" initiative, Punjab Minister Baljit Kaur said on Tuesday.

She said the camps were organized under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, with a focus on the healthcare of elderly people.

The minister said the government is committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of senior citizens.

She said the services provided at the camps included eye check-ups, cancer screening, NCD screening, orthopaedic and ENT check-ups, physiotherapy, and psychological assessments.

As many as 1,756 registrations were made for cataract surgeries, of which 539 have been conducted, she said.

She added that 1,274 cancer screenings, 4,863 orthopaedic check-ups, 6,339 NCD screenings, and 9,015 eye examinations were carried out.

The minister said that 418 beneficiaries were identified for assistive devices, while 3,014 pairs of eyeglasses were distributed.

She said the government will continue to organize such initiatives for the welfare of the elderly.
