Mathura (UP), March 15 A sadhu was critically injured after being attacked with a knife at a temple in the Barsana area here on Sunday, police said.

The unidentified assailants allegedly attempted to cut the victim's throat while he was cooking on the temple premises.

The incident took place at the Shri Radhavallabh temple in Sahar village, which falls under the Barsana police station.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Suresh Chandra Rawat said the injured sadhu has been identified as Mohan Das, also known as Goonga Baba (48).

According to the police, some unidentified persons entered the temple premises on Sunday morning and attacked the sadhu with a knife while he was cooking.

The attackers repeatedly struck him on the neck, leaving him seriously injured.

After the attack, the assailants fled the scene, leaving the sadhu in a critical condition. The injured sadhu was rushed to a hospital. His condition was stated to be critical, the police said.

Following the incident, a police team inspected the scene and initiated an investigation to determine the motive and the number of people involved in the attack.

ASP Rawat said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused.
