Kolkata, March 1 Sanju Samson (74 not out) and Tilak Varma (27) brought India back into contention after Suryakumar Yadav's dismissal, as India reached 146/4, needing another 50 runs off the last 30 balls with six wickets in hand in their T20 World Cup match against West Indies here on Sunday.
Varma fell after a brisk 27 off 15 balls to Jason Holder, with Shimron Hetmyer taking his third catch of the night, but Samson remained at the crease alongside Hardik Pandya.
Having survived on 17 off Gudakesh Motie, India captain Suryakumar Yadav (18) fell in the second ball of Shamar Joseph's first over, putting immense pressure on India.
India failed to score any boundaries in the 11th and 12th overs, and the required run rate crept above 11 per over. However, India regained momentum as Varma smashed three consecutive fours and Samson one off Joseph.
Roston Chase bowled a lackluster first over, but India collected 15 runs off his second to maintain the momentum.
