Hyderabad, February 21 – Telugu star Nani released the trailer of 'Saraswathi' on Saturday, which marks actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar's debut as a director in the film industry.
In a post on his X account, Nani wrote, "Some journeys are special because of the people behind them. I am incredibly proud to launch the trailer of #Saraswathi, directed by my dear friend @varusarath5. I have seen the hard work she has put into this, and it truly deserves all your love. I wish the entire team nothing but success. #Saraswathi, produced by #poojasarathkumar #varalaxmisarathkumar, under the banner @Dosadiariesoffl. A @MusicThaman musical."
The trailer begins with Varalaxmi waiting at a police station. We learn that her daughter, Saraswathi, has gone missing. "I dropped her off at school myself, but when I went to pick her up, they said she wasn't there," the actress says.
Meanwhile, Priyamani and Kishore also find themselves in the same situation. Priyamani asks the school watchman if her child has arrived. The watchman replies that everyone has left and that there is no one at the school. We then see Priyamani and Kishore frantically searching for their child inside the school.
The police soon take action and begin inquiries, even as Varalaxmi says that her daughter will not go anywhere without informing her. Without any evidence, Varalaxmi seems helpless. We then see Varalaxmi, after several anxious moments, approaching Prakash Raj, who plays the role of advocate Ramanunajam in the film. Initially reluctant to take on her case due to the lack of evidence, we see him agreeing and appearing on her behalf in court. We realize that a crime has occurred and that, even after a lengthy legal battle, Varalaxmi will be unable to get justice. The trailer ends with Varalaxmi acquiring a gun and learning how to use it. "Not every woman will be a Saraswathi. If there is a need, she will even become a Kali," she says.
The film is being produced by Varalaxmi herself along with her sister Pooja under the banner of Dosa Diaries.
The film, apart from featuring Varalaxmi, also features actors Prakash Raj, Priya Mani, Radhikaa Sarathkumar, and Naveen Chandra.
'Saraswathi' also boasts of a talented technical team. The film has music by Thaman, one of the top music directors in the Tamil and Telugu film industries.
The cinematography for the film has been handled by Edwin Sakay, while the editing has been done by Venkat Raajen. Art direction is by Sudheer, and dance choreography is by Brinda.
