New Delhi, April 1 The government has taken action against private satellite TV channels, including the cancellation of licenses and off-air orders, up to 144 times in the last five years for violating the Programme Code and Advertising Code, Union Minister L Murugan said on Thursday.

Murugan, the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, also stated that the ministry issues advisories to private satellite TV channels periodically regarding adherence to the codes.

In the last five years, one TV channel's license was cancelled, and off-air orders were issued to three channels. In addition, apologies were demanded 54 times, and warnings were issued to channels 50 times, he said in response to a written question.
