SC Order Opens Path for Voter List Appeals in Bengal

SC Order Opens Path for Voter List Appeals in Bengal.webp

Kolkata, March 10 West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ended her protest against the "flawed SIR" on Tuesday, after five days, stating that the protest was being temporarily suspended following the Supreme Court's order to set up an appellate mechanism regarding the revision of the voter list.

Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision to establish the appellate authority, Banerjee said that the door closed by the EC has now been opened, bringing a new ray of hope for the people whose names were deleted or were under review due to "logical discrepancies" under the SIR.

The CM stated that she is calling off the protest "temporarily", adding that the TMC will continue to monitor future developments.

She said that the Supreme Court order is a victory for the people of Bengal.

The protest was called off on a day when the full bench of the EC concluded its two-day visit to the state to review poll preparedness.
