
Jalaun (UP), April 9 At least seven people, including five children, were injured on Thursday when a school van carrying students overturned here, police said.
The incident occurred around 1 pm when the vehicle was dropping students off at home after school hours in the Kalpi area, they said.
According to Inspector In-Charge of Kalpi police station, Ajay Brahma Tiwari, the van driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned near Luhor village.
Residents and passersby rushed to the spot to rescue the trapped children and alerted the police and emergency services.
"Five children and two staff members sustained serious injuries and have been referred to the Government Medical College in Orai. Other students with minor injuries were provided primary medical aid at a hospital in Kalpi," Tiwari said.
Upon receiving information about the accident, District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey and Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Singh visited the hospital to monitor the condition of the injured.
The District Magistrate has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident.
