
On Monday, Meghalaya intensified its efforts to establish a science-based food safety system, with Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla emphasizing that strong laboratories, skilled personnel, and coordinated efforts are crucial. Shylla was speaking at a technical session at the State Food Testing Laboratory in Pasteur Hills. Shylla also launched advanced testing systems, including GC-FID technology and an Automated Water Analyzer, significantly reducing testing time. He announced the approval of a research and development center worth ₹4.61 crore. Officials highlighted that improved food systems will boost exports and tourism, while also addressing contamination risks and public health concerns.
