Science & Technology Partnerships: CSIR and MEA Foster Global Cooperation.webp

New Delhi, March 24 The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) jointly hosted ambassadors and high commissioners from the Global South on Tuesday for a session on cooperation to address global challenges using science and technology.

Known as the Capabilities Discovery Session, the event aimed to strengthen partnerships among countries through science, technology, and innovation, aligned with global priorities, including sustainable development, climate action, health equity, food and water security, resilient infrastructure, and inclusive technological growth.

Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South) of MEA, stated, “The role of science diplomacy in advancing shared developmental priorities across the Global South, particularly in healthcare, climate resilience, and sustainable resource management.”

During the session, CSIR scientists showcased technologies addressing several global challenges.

For example, Dr. C Anandharamakrishnan, Director of CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), presented affordable food processing and packaging solutions.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ram Vishwakarma of CSIR highlighted pharmaceutical research and the need for collaboration to address antimicrobial resistance.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Vishwakarma invited partner countries to collaborate with CSIR in strengthening the science, technology, and innovation (STI) ecosystems across the Global South and deploying technology-based solutions for societal challenges.
