Puducherry, March 23 The Congress and DMK reached an agreement on Monday for the upcoming Assembly elections in the union territory, where the Congress will contest 16 seats.

The remaining 14 seats have been allocated to the DMK.

The DMK will allocate seats to the constituents of the INDI bloc, namely VCK and CPI, from its share.

DMK delegate and Lok Sabha member S Jagathratchagan and Puducherry PCC president V Vaithilingam announced the seat-sharing agreement at a press conference here.

In the 2021 Assembly election, the Congress contested 14 seats and won two. The DMK contested 13 seats and won 6.

The filing of nominations for the elections ended today. The scrutiny of nominations will begin on March 24, and the last date for withdrawing candidates is March 26.

A single-phase poll for 30 seats in the union territory is scheduled for April 9.
