Security has been increased at key religious and historical sites in the national capital today, following intelligence reports about a potential terrorist threat. Increased security measures have been put in place around the Red Fort and in parts of Chandni Chowk.
This alert comes after central intelligence agencies indicated that the Pakistan-based terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, has allegedly included prominent religious sites in India on its list of targets.
The agencies have indicated that the group may attempt to carry out an attack using an improvised explosive device (IED). However, officials have stated that there is no need to panic and that the measures are simply precautionary.
