In Jammu and Kashmir, two terrorists were killed in a joint security operation in the Kishtwar district today. An Akashvani Jammu correspondent reports that the operation, codenamed "Trashi-I", was launched based on specific intelligence about the presence of two Pakistani terrorists in the area. The terrorists, who were hiding inside a mud house on the foothills of a hill, opened fire on approaching troops, leading to a fierce gun battle in the general area of Passerkoot in the Chatroo belt. This prompted joint teams of the Army, police, and CRPF to launch a search operation. Troops from the Army's White Knight Corps, in coordination with the J&K Police and CRPF, launched a search operation in the area. Contact was established with the terrorists earlier, and security forces re-engaged them around 11 AM in difficult terrain. In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed. The identities and affiliations of the terrorists were being determined. Security forces also recovered two AK-47 rifles and other war-like stores from the encounter site. The area has been cordoned off, and search operations are continuing. Further details are awaited. The Chatroo forest belt witnessed nearly half a dozen gunfights between terrorists and security forces last month, resulting in the death of a soldier and a terrorist.
