The 106-year-old freedom fighter in Dhemaji is ready to cast his vote
A 106-year-old freedom fighter, Tanka Bora, from the Dhemaji district, is all set to exercise his right to vote in the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections, scheduled for April 9, 2026.
Bora, a resident of Bishnupur village in the 78th Dhemaji (ST) Assembly constituency, remains determined to participate in the democratic process despite his advanced age.
Election authorities have also made special arrangements for senior citizens over 85 years who are unable to visit the polling station, enabling them to vote from home using Form 12-C.
Upon learning about this facility, Bora and his family expressed their gratitude to the government. Remarkably, at 106, he is able to move around his home independently, although he experiences some difficulty in communication due to hearing problems.
According to official data, the Dhemaji district has a total of 3,579 voters aged 85 and above across its three constituencies, including 1,543 male and 2,036 female voters.
