New Delhi, February 17 Acclaimed Norwegian director Joachim Trier, whose new film "Sentimental Value" is nominated in nine categories at the Oscars, says his films are personal and often come from a space where he has creative control.
"Sentimental Value," a close portrayal of a family, revolves around the strained relationship between an aging filmmaker and his two daughters – a homemaker and an actor – and marks Trier and his co-writer Eskil Vogt's return after "The Worst Person in the World," the acclaimed story of a young woman's search for love and identity, which was released in 2021.
The director said "Sentimental Value," which won the Grand Prix at Cannes last year, is his sixth film with Vogt, and they feel fortunate to be able to express themselves freely.
"This is my sixth film, written with Eskil Vogt, my co-writer. I come from a place where all my films are developed in a space where we have creative control, and we make personal movies. We don't make them to aim for a commercial genre or anything like that."
"I grew up watching films by Lars von Trier and Pedro Almodovar, and other filmmakers who made personal films from their own cultures. I'm very grateful that I'm allowed to work this way, using the language, which is very important," Trier said during an international group interview with
