Ahmedabad, March 26 A major fire broke out in an apartment on the third floor of a multi-story residential building in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning, officials said.
No casualties were reported, they said, adding that residents from the third floor upwards were evacuated to the terrace in time.
The fire erupted in the Skycity Riviera Elite building in the Shela area of Ahmedabad. More than a dozen fire trucks were rushed to control the blaze, Additional Chief Fire Officer Jayesh Khadia said.
The apartment, with its wooden interior, had caused the fire to spread rapidly, completely destroying it, he said.
Two nearby apartments on the third floor were also partially affected by the fire, the official said.
"Fire trucks from Bopal, Thaltej, and Prahladnagar fire stations reached the scene. One team worked to extinguish the fire, while another team worked to evacuate all the residents of the affected tower, from the third to the top floor of the multi-story building, to the terrace for safety," he said.
"No casualties were reported as everyone from the third floor upwards was safely evacuated to the terrace," the official said.
The fire was extinguished after nearly two and a half hours, and residents were allowed to return to their apartments, he added.
