April 11, New Delhi – India’s Ayush Shetty advanced to the final of the Badminton Asia Championships after defeating the top seed and defending champion, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, in the semi-final in Ningbo, China.
The Indian shuttler came back from a deficit to win against the world number one with a score of 10-21, 21-19, 21-17.
He became the first Indian men’s singles player, after Dinesh Khanna, to reach the final of the prestigious tournament.
Khanna remains the only Indian to have won the men’s singles gold medal at the continental meet in 1965.
Although Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the title in men’s doubles in 2023.
