
February 25, New Delhi – Chinese qualifier Yibing Wu defeated the third-seeded Casper Ruud of Norway in the first round of the Mexican Open.
The closely contested match featured only two service breaks, which occurred consecutively in the middle of the second set.
Wu performed exceptionally well in the second-set tiebreaker, never losing a service point against the 2024 runner-up. He will next face Japan's Sho Shimabukuro in the round of 16 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, top seed Alexander Zverev of Germany easily advanced to the next round by defeating France's Corentin Moutet in straight sets. He will face Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic in the round of 16.
