Shimla: Men Arrested for Attempted Robbery of Youth Congress Leader.webp

Shimla, March 23 Two men have been arrested for allegedly attempting to rob the general secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress, police said on Monday.

Police arrested Charanjeet Singh, 48, and Tashi Negi, 45, both residents of the Shimla district, adding that the vehicles in which the accused were travelling from Mashobra have been recovered and seized.

The victim, Aaryan Chauhan, is the son of the media advisor to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

On March 20, Chauhan filed a complaint, alleging that several individuals carrying a gun and a metal road approached him while he was on his way to Shimla from Mashobra near Tarapur village, police said.

However, he was able to avert the attack as he jumped out of the car.

Acting swiftly, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated the investigation.

Police also recovered and seized the vehicles in which the accused were travelling from Mashobra, which they had abandoned.

During the investigation, police thoroughly inspected the crime scene and also inspected the CCTV footage of the surrounding areas.

The investigations revealed that the accused had attempted to conceal their identity by removing the chassis and engine numbers of the vehicle. The number plate on the vehicle was also found to be fake, police said.

"Despite their efforts to destroy evidence, police were able to identify the accused through detailed analysis of CCTV footage and technical evidence. Both suspects were subsequently arrested."

Police stated that further investigation is underway.
